Healthy Eats
In 2016, the FDA announced the new Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods to reflect new scientific information, including the link between diet and chronic diseases such as obesity and heart disease. The new label will make it easier for consumers to make better informed food choices. The new label is already appearing on packages even before it is required to be used. Manufacturers must switch to the new label by January 1, 2020. Keep your eyes out for the new label when you are out shopping!
What's the Hype?
So here's the scoop--Area Agencies on Aging utilize a Senior Nutrition Program that is intended to help increase the nutrient intake of older adults who might not eat adequately, and through better nutrition, assist them to remain healthy and independent in their communities. Each meal served consists of 1/3 of the current recommended dietary allowance established by the Food and Nutrition Board.

The CHOICE Counts program is modeled after the Title III-C Meal Nutrition Program. In order to meet full dietary guidelines, your meal should include 3 oz. meat/protein, 1 cup of vegetables, 1 fruit, a whole grain, and a milk product.
